If you are anything like me, you have a giant pile of crayons or colored pencils laying somewhere around your house or classroom! I often find classroom supplies like crayons or colored pencils at garage sales and thrift stores. Although this is usually a good way to get a cheap price it also means that they usually aren’t in a box. My attempt to easily keep them ‘organized’ is to put them all in a big fabric bin. However this usually leads to chaos and frustration in my classroom when my students are trying to find a particular color or shade. Luckily, I have found the perfect solution using Dollar Tree products!
For this project, you will need:
Crayons or Colored Pencils to Organize
Foam Board (Two Sheets)
Scissors
Packing Tape
Washi Tape or other Decorative Tape
The first step is to measure out your base. The base will consist of as many bins as you need spread out in rows. Determine how many you need by how many different types of crayons and colored pencils you have
Once you have measured and traced your base you will cut it out with a pair of scissors.
After the base and side pieces have been cut, you will start assembling the box using packing tape. Make sure to reinforce the inside and outside of the box.
Now to make the organizer a little prettier, add some decorative tape or washi to the outside. Don’t worry about the inside, no one will be seeing that!
Now it’s time to organize! Here, I am organizing my colored pencils. I simply sort them by color. Each color will have a variety of shades within it. I think that sorting this way is the most effective for this project.
There is nothing more beautiful than organized classroom supplies!

I hope you give this project a try!
